Dear Diary,
It has been a while since I last wrote in you. The past few months have been filled with so much change and uncertainty. With the outbreak of the war, we were forced to go into hiding in order to avoid persecution. My family and I are now living in a secret annex, where we must remain quiet and concealed, as even the slightest sound could lead to our discovery.
Life in the Annex
Living in the annex has been both challenging and isolating. The tiny space we occupy is barely enough to hold the eight of us, and we must remain quiet during the day, so as not to alert any outsiders to our presence. I long for the simple joy of being able to step outside and feel the sunshine on my face or breathe in the fresh air. But instead, I am confined to these four walls, always inside, always hiding.
Within the annex, there is a constant struggle for space and resources. I find myself fighting over the little things, like who gets the biggest serving of food or who gets to sit in the most comfortable chair. It's petty, I know, but these little things can make all the difference to our weary souls. Despite our differences, we must try to maintain a sense of unity, for we are all in this together.
Moments of Joy
Amidst the darkness and despair, there are still some moments of joy. We try to find ways to bring a little bit of light into our lives any way we can. Sometimes we play games or listen to the radio. Once in a while, we are visited by a friendly ally who brings us news from the outside world. These moments of connection and hope mean everything to us.
At times, my mind drifts to thoughts of my friends and family outside of the annex. I wonder what they are doing, how they are living their lives. Do they know where we are? Do they miss us as much as we miss them? I try not to dwell on these thoughts too much, as they only fill me with sadness and longing.
Hope for the Future
Despite the challenges we face, I hold onto hope for a better future. I dream of a world where people are not judged by their religion or ethnicity, but by the content of their character. I believe that one day, we will be free from the horrors of war and persecution. Until then, I will continue to hold onto hope and believe in the goodness of humanity.
Until next time,
Anne
